A two-month cruise circling Australia is being halted in the wake of the tragic passing of an elderly woman who was left behind by the cruise liner on a remote tropical isle.

Suzanne Rees had been walking on the remote island with other travelers from the Coral Adventurer, but parted ways from the party for a pause. The vessel departed without her and returned several hours later after the crew realised the passenger was not present.

A major hunt discovered her body the following day.

Officials are investigating the tragedy, alongside investigators and the state coroner.

Head of the voyage organizer said that travelers and staff on the Coral Adventurer were informed that the remainder of the voyage had been called off due to the "tragic passing and prior technical problems".
